Espresso literally means “fast coffee”. High pressure and steam are used to “extract”
espresso, one cup at a time, in about 20 seconds (vs. 5 minutes for brewed coffee). The
end result is a rich concentrated coffee topped with dense golden-brown foam called
cream.
Cappuccino is espresso topped with equal parts steamed and foamed milk. A “dry”
cappuccino is topped with all foamed milk.
A Café Latte begins with a shot of espresso. Steamed milk is poured down the side of the
cup, allowing milk and espresso to marbleize. “Latte” is the Italian word for milk. Order a
Latte in Rome, and you’ll be served a glass of milk!
A single shot of espresso contains 90-150mg of caffeine. An average 8 oz cup of drip
coffee contains 184mg of caffeine. Don’t need the jolt? Our decaf coffees and espresso
